What are CBD capsules?

A capsule is a shell filled with a measured amount of contents, here CBD extract in a carrier oil. You swallow it with water, like many other food supplements. Because each capsule holds a set amount, there is nothing to measure out with a dropper and no taste to get used to.

At CBD Armour, capsules are sold as food supplements. They are not medicines, they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and nothing on this page is medical advice. CBD is not suitable for under-18s. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, taking medication or have a health condition, speak to a pharmacist or doctor before using any CBD product.

You may also see these products described as cannabidiol capsules: cannabidiol is simply the full name for CBD. Whatever the name on the pack, judge the product by what the label says it contains.

How do CBD capsules compare to oil and gummies?

All three are ways to take CBD orally. The real differences are practical, and no format is automatically “better” than another:

  • Capsules: no flavour, pre-measured, easy to carry in a bag or travel wash kit, and discreet at work. Some people simply prefer swallowing a capsule to holding drops under the tongue.
  • Oil (drops): flexible. You read the mg per drop or per ml from the label, and there are several strengths and flavours. Our CBD oil UK range includes Raw & Original (full spectrum) and Cool & Fresh (broad spectrum, mint) options.
  • Gummies: a chewable, flavoured option with a set amount per gummy. See our CBD gummies UK range for current availability.

If you want CBD on the skin rather than taken orally, that is a different product category with different directions. Browse CBD cream & cosmetics.

What strength or mg should I look for on the label?

Start with the amount of CBD per capsule, not just the big number on the front of the pack. A figure like “750 mg” usually refers to the whole container. Read it alongside the capsule count to understand what one capsule contains.

For CBD Armour’s broad-spectrum capsules, the listing states:

Label detail As listed
CBD per capsule 25 mg
Capsules per pack 30
Total CBD per pack 750 mg
Ingredients Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT), hemp-derived broad-spectrum extract
Allergen Contains coconut

We don’t give personal serving advice. Follow the directions on the product label, and speak to a pharmacist or doctor if you are unsure whether CBD suits you. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises healthy adults to keep their total CBD intake from food supplements to no more than 10 mg a day. This is general safety guidance, not a personal dose. Our listing notes that one 25 mg capsule is above that figure, and the product is currently unavailable to buy. Read the FSA’s CBD guidance before choosing any oral CBD product.

Check the shell and dietary suitability on the live label too. Don’t assume every capsule is vegan, vegetarian or allergen-free.

Broad spectrum cannabinoid oil capsules, in plain language

“Broad spectrum” describes the extract inside the capsule. A broad-spectrum hemp extract keeps a range of compounds from the hemp plant but has been processed to remove THC to within legal limits. Our capsules use a broad-spectrum extract in an MCT (coconut-derived) carrier oil. That is why you may see them called cannabinoid oil capsules or CBD oil capsules.

The phrase “cannabis oil capsules” also turns up in searches. Lawful UK retail CBD products are made from hemp extract, are sold within UK controlled-substance limits and are not prescription cannabis medicines. If you want the detail, read our guide: Is CBD legal in the UK?

How to choose the best CBD capsules in the UK

“Best” depends on what you need from the product. A label that just says “best”, with no stated comparison method, tells you nothing about quality. These checks are more useful:

  1. Clear mg labelling: CBD per capsule, capsules per pack and total CBD, all stated plainly.
  2. Lab testing: a current Certificate of Analysis (COA) from an independent lab that matches your batch. Our capsule listing links to its COA.
  3. Full ingredients and allergens: carrier oil, shell material and any allergens such as coconut.
  4. Product category: a food supplement should be labelled as one, with no promises to treat any condition.
  5. Seller transparency: a real UK address, a way to contact the seller, and straight answers about stock. CBD Armour has sold CBD in the UK since 2017 from Benson House, Birmingham, and you can contact us with label or batch questions.
  6. Fair pricing: compare the price per mg of CBD rather than per pack.
