Potential Side Effects of CBD Oil
Cannabidiol or CBD is one of the 104 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. Out of all the chemical compounds, THC, CBD, and Hemp are the most common. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main compound which is associated with marijuana. It is psychoactive in nature and can get you “high”. On the other hand, CBD and Hemp are non-psychoactive and have a wide range of medicinal properties.
Several studies have shown promising effects of CBD oil on the body and mind as it helps with relieving physical pain as well as stress and anxiety. It also helps in controlling chronic ailments such as; arthritis, epilepsy, symptoms of glaucoma & Alzheimer’s disease, to mention a few. It would be incorrect to state that CBD oil comes with no side effects at all.
Recent surveys have suggested that the potential side effects of CBD oil on the body are quite minimal. Generally, Cannabidiol oil is well-tolerated and considered safe for consumption, but sometimes it can cause unpleasant reactions, mainly, depending upon the quality and dosage of the oil.
Some of the potential side effects of CBD oil are:
Dry Mouth: This is one of the more common side effects of CBD oil. Also known as Cottonmouth, it is mainly caused by anandamide, an endocannabinoid, found in CBD. This compound inhibits the production of saliva by blocking the signals from the nervous system which leads to dry mouth. However, by drinking an ample amount of water and controlling the consumption of CBD oil, the symptoms are easily manageable and often prevents the problem.
Low Blood Pressure: One of the main culprits behind dizziness and lightheadedness is low blood pressure. Although, CBD oil is well known for relaxing the mind, sometimes, high dosages can lead to a small drop in blood pressure and little dizziness within a few minutes of its consumption. If you suffer from Low BP or are taking medication for Blood pressure, then it is always advisable to consult your GP before taking CBD oil, as it may not be a good combination.
Nausea: This is one of the rare side effects of CBD oil, considering that it helps in relieving nausea and discomfort. Ingesting a heavy dosage of CBD oil can cause mild discomfort to some, especially those with a weak digestion system. But, there is no need to worry, the reaction is mild and tends to go away almost immediately.
Headache: Can CBD oil cause headaches? The answer is yes and no! One of the major benefits of CBD oil is that it helps in controlling migraines and severe headaches. But, if you are using a low-quality and degraded CBD oil, then there are high chances that you will end up with a headache. It is essential to check the quality and dosage of the oil before consumption. So, the next time you feel a headache coming on, remember to use a high-quality CBD oil and start with low dosages.
Inhibits Hepatic Drug Metabolism: This side effect is related to the functioning of liver enzymes such as p-glycoprotein and cytochrome P450. Increased dosage of CBD oil can temporarily neutralise and slow down the activity of the liver enzymes, thus, affecting the drug metabolism. If you experience intolerance to any drug, then immediately decrease the dosage of the CBD oil and drink plenty of water to reverse the effects.
A few other side effects may occur depending upon your individual body, but, it is important to keep in mind, that all the side effects are minor and temporary.
Without a doubt, CBD, as with most things, have a few side effects, but in comparison to actual drug medication and sedatives such as; Xanax and Prozac, it is less harmful, non-addictive and does not have any withdrawal symptoms. It is both, a natural and organic compound. So, the next time you reach for a tablet for anxiety, a migraine or sleepless nights, why not try this organic and pure oil to resolve the problem naturally.
