During this pandemic, it has become extremely important to wear a mask, to slow down the spread of the COVID virus. Yet many people find it extremely difficult to exercise while wearing a mask.

If you are working out alone at home, it is still not an issue if you do not wear your face covering. However, if you work anywhere apart from your home, you need to be extra cautious and hence it is necessary to wear masks.

What Happens To Your Body When You Wear Face Masks?

It is a well-established fact that while working out, your heart rate increases. When you have your mask on it becomes extremely difficult to breathe properly.

Moreover, the surgical mask is going to get wet and it will make the entire activity very uncomfortable for your respiratory system. However, if you are doing moderate exercise, a mask is not going to impact your energy levels.

Additionally, remember that wearing a mask is not going to affect your aerobic or anaerobic performance either!

As such wearing a face covering, is safe for almost everybody. However, if you are suffering from chronic lung disease or obstructive pulmonary disease, you should consult your doctor before you try to exercise with a mask on.

Which Face Mask Works Well While Exercising?

Although there is no specific type of face mask linked with the intensity of exercise you are planning to do, some alternatives, like cloth masks, are available that are better and are more comfortable to use.

Cloth masks or face mask that has polyester in it works really well as it has moisture-wicking properties. Ensure that the mask you are planning to wear does not have more than two layers of cloth.

Unfortunately, surgical masks should be completely avoided while exercising. The reason being that they tend to get wet, due to sweat and the continuous exhalation that happens during the activity.

Also, using an N95 Face Mask doesn’t really affect your overall performance either. Still, it is a good idea to keep in mind your comfort when choosing the style of mask that is right for you and meets all the requirements as well.

Wearing a mask is necessary. Although the ability to breathe comfortably, in the beginning, will be difficult but with time you will get used to it.
